Looking to Fill Druid Tank Position!

The Editor

The Editor

When we first began this precocious blog I had three bloggers: a Warrior Tank, a Paladin Tank, and a Druid Tank.

TGAPGeorge worked out okay, Lagom is good–but needs to get the lead out–and our Druid Tank did nothing.  Eventually I obliterated him from the site.

So to fill the vacant position, I’m organizing a Battle-Royale of Druid Tank bloggery where the last Tank standing will be lauded with praise, love slaves, mountains of loot, a pat on the back from me, and a permanent spot as the Druid Tank here at I’m Tanking What?!

Rest In Peace Citadel

Lagom – Paladin Tank

On February 15th, 2009, the guild Citadel – Dunemaul – dismantled.

citadel_logoCitadel’s reputation was a guild filled with “misfits” and the like.  Well, I never considered myself a “reject” or “neglected,” just a dang good paladin tank.  Although the more I think about it, Citadel was a big part of my Paladin evolving and “maturing”… but it’s good to know that’s why I was invited to the guild.  😛

I would like to start off by expressing a thought I have about World of Warcraft.  To me, it is a game that allows anyone to enjoy what one puts into it.  A player may PvP and/or PvE, and regardless of being in a guild or not, it is what you make of it.  A guild (again in my opinion) may or may not enhance one’s game experience.  A guild may or may not make it easier to do what one is looking to accomplish.  One may achieve the things the game provides with or without a guild ….period!

Here is what I think people didn’t get about citadel and maybe this is the reason it ended up dismantling.  Maybe I am right on, maybe I’m way off base, or maybe this is some thought provoking revelation.   Citadel (from what I’ve been told) started off as a small group of players who had developed a bond through a passion for the adventures, but also from friendship.

The guild’s evolution was based on this core.  During the process, the guild was never really “defined.”  It was a guild where “mature” gamers could not only play the game together, but also have evolving relationships.

I belonged to Citadel because I enjoyed the people — not to level, not to raid, not to PvP.  All of those aspects were fun to do with my guild mates and friends, but I could do those adventures either way.  I developed many friendships from being a part of this amazing group of people.  I learned many things and had many great conversations.

Although those relationships hopefully will not diminish, unfortunately Citadel has.  I think the reason for the dismantling is not that Citadel was made of “rejects” and “misfits” but that people lost sight of what Citadel had evolved into.   It was a one of a kind guild that will never be again.

Thank you Crimsonheart for letting me be a part of it.  /sigh.

Titansteel Guardian Good for Paladin Tanks or Not?

Lagom – Paladin Tank

They say that Paladin Tanks don’t need a lot of spellpower. Historically, our main source came from our tanking weapons. Since WOTLK, it now comes not from our main weapon, but from the talent Touched by the Light. We Paladins have a question to answer…

titansteel-guardianI have used the Titansteel Guardian item for tanking in some situations and I have to say…..I’m a threat machine with this bad boy. If I can endure the loss of stats from not using Red Sword of Courage, why not? Right? Situational usage?

red-swordI don’t know for sure, but being a paladin tank after the expansion seems like we have almost forgotten that our main threat generator is still spell damage. And this weapon really bumps my spell damage up. I heard somewhere they might be nerfing this item, but by how much?

Anybody have any thoughts regarding these Paladin Tanking weapons or others?

WoW Paladin Tank Add-ons

February 13, 2009

Lagom – Paladin Tank

It’s short and sweet, but here are the three add-ons I use for Tanking:

  • First my favorite is the best marking add-on ever! Quickmarks
  • Next everyone’s raiding favorite (I think), Omen
  • And finally Deadly Boss Mods, although honestly I haven’t been to happy with DBM since Wrath.

That’s all folks! Those are the only add-ons I use for tanking, and I still manage to do my job. Stats and gear I pretty much figure out on my own by using them and looking at the numbers while playing to see what I prefer — and because I Keep All My Gear!

Other Add-Ons that I use for the game (not tanking specific) that I like are:

  • WIM (WoW Instant Messenger)
  • Cartographer (New game map with extra features)

Advice for Paladin Tanks: Keep Your Gear

January 29, 2009

Lagom – Paladin Tank

In the beginning, I realized quickly that a paladin tank has a bit more to think about over the warrior tank: Spell Damage!  All the stats and considerations for a Warrior Tank hold true for a Paladin Tank.  However, now throw in some intellect, mana regeneration, spell damage and spell hit with all that dodge, parry, block, stamina, armor, strength, hit rating, expertise and BOOM there you go.  As you can imagine it’s difficult to get it all where you want it to be right away.

Paladins primarily build threat with their spell damage abilities, but still need all the mitigation stats to avoid being crushable and critable.  Entry level gear (keep this stuff too!) is pretty much equal across the board for warrior, paladin and even death knights (droods are a whole other story….awesome btw).  It is when you grow out of the entry level stuff and start the end game pve content where you either stand out…or respec for healing :/ rofl rofl!

My one piece of advice: Keep every Tanking item you get!

My biggest mistake was that every time I thought I got an upgrade I trashed my old gear.  Then I would get another upgrade, but now that piece of gear I trashed worked well with my new piece of gear.  So now I had to go get that piece again or wait for another piece that worked.  Of course I didn’t realize this immediately.  It was late in my WoW career before it hit me.  So for you newer tanks or even veteran tanks who aren’t doing this… KEEP ALL YOUR GEAR!
